Horace Cooper
Horace Cooper of Kingstown serves as press secretary and director of coalitions for Congressman Richard Armey, the Majority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives. In this position, Cooper acts as Congressman Armey's spokesman and as the liaison to business and activist groups that promote the agenda of the Republican Party. He appears frequently on radio and television. Before January 1998, he was Congressman Armey's legislative counsel, handling issues in crime, telecommunications, financial services, urban family issues, government ethics, small business and labor issues, and congressional reform. On the Board of Visitors, Cooper is vice chair of the Student Affairs Committee; secretary of the Executive Committee; a member of the Finance and Resource Development, Land Use and Physical Facilities, and Executive Committees. He has a bachelor's degree in government and public policy from the University of Texas-Austin and a law degree from the George Mason University School of Law. He was listed in Who's Who among Law School Students. His memberships include the Federalist Society, Project 21 (an initiative of the National Center for Public Policy Research to promote the views of African Americans whose entrepreneurial spirit, sense of family, and commitment to individual responsibility have not traditionally been represented by the nation's civil rights leaders), and the Minority Mainstream Coalition. Cooper is also a board member of the Frederick Douglas Gardens. |
