J. Knox SingletonJ. Knox Singleton is president and CEO of Inova Health System, one of the largest integrated health care delivery systems in the metropolitan Washington region and the largest in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He was first named to lead the organization in 1984 when it was called the Fairfax Hospital Association, following a year's stint as its executive vice president for operations. Through his vision and leadership, Inova Health System has continued its nonprofit mission of providing health care to all, regardless of ability to pay, while offering state-of-the-art medical care to the residents of Northern Virginia. For the past three years, U.S. News & World Report magazine has named Inova Fairfax Hospital, the flagship facility, as one of "America's Best Hospitals." Under Singleton's stewardship, Inova has grown from a system with three hospitals to one which now includes five hospitals, several emergency and urgent care centers, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, medical office buildings, community clinics, and home health services. In addition to his duties at Inova, Singleton serves as a director and officer of the Fairfax Symphony and is a board member of the United Way and several other community organizations which address issues such as affordable housing and human services. He also belongs to the American College of Health Care Executives and the American Hospital Association. Before joining Inova, Singleton served as the hospital director for the Hershey Medical Center of Pennsylvania State University from 1978 to 1983. He was the assistant director of the Medical Center from 1975 to 1977.
